Omega 3 Benefits for Mental Health

Extensive research has shown that brain inflammation is connected to virtually all types of mental illness. Mood disorders such as depression and anxiety, as well as more serious conditions like autism, dementia, and even schizophrenia, have all been linked to inflammation of the brain. We will take a look how omega 3 benefits mental health.

Fish Oil May Reduce Risk of Psychosis

Patients at a high risk of developing schizophrenia are often treated with low-dose anti-psychotics in a bid to ward off the disorder. Now, a study published in the archives of general psychiatry suggests that fish oil might offer similar benefits with fewer potential side effects.

A Vienna-based study looked at whether regular doses of fish oil could prevent schizophrenia among young, at-risk patients age 13 to 25. From the 81 study participants, 41 were given fish oil tablets four times a day, for three months. Only two patients in the fish oil group developed a psychotic disorder a year later, while 11 of the placebo group did.

Previous studies have suggested a link between fatty acids, like those found in fish, and mental health. As well as in countries such as Norway and Japan, where fish is often a major dietary staple, mental illnesses are less prevalent.

Omega 3 Benefits for Mental Health

Using fish oil to manage or prevent mental illness is based on a hypothesis that disorders such as schizophrenia develop as a consequence of the body’s inability to correctly manage fatty acid absorption, leading to brain cell damage.

Researchers speculate the fact that omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil may also help repair those cells. Omega-3s can also be integral to the release of dopamine and serotonin, two brain chemicals implicated in schizophrenia.

Moxxor Omega 3 Benefits for Mental Health

Other preliminary studies suggest that fish oil may protect against Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, and slow the progression of prostate cancer. Researchers advise being very cautious in choosing a supplement.

After growing concerns about contamination, the University of Guelph launched an International Fish Oil Standards program, offering third-party validation of a supplement’s safety.

If you are looking to try a great Omega 3 that has no chemicals or pcb’s look no further because Moxxor comes from the pristine environment of Marlborough Sound, New Zealand. It is not fish oil but a green lipped mussel. This product is not only an Omega 3 but a very powerful antioxidant with kiwi seed and sauvignon blanc grape seed extract.

Omega 3 Benefits for Depression

Some of the clinical studies that have been done concluded that taking fish oil supplements have improved some symptoms of depression and determined them comparable to those of antidepressant medications.

The greatest improvements with these depressive symptoms seemed to occur in people who were also taking antidepressants. Also, there were people that tended to see greater effects when the Omega 3 supplement contained higher concentrations of EPA.

Researchers have suggested that the Omega 3’s may be related to their effects on serotonin levels and serotonin receptors inside the brain. Some scientists have proposed that because of omega-3s anti-inflammatory effects, it could help improve the symptoms of depression.
